5 Memorable Moments of The Bollywood’s Legendary Icon Shashi Kapoor

Shashi Kapoor is a member of the Kapoor family, a film dynasty in India’s cinema, and is the third and the youngest son of Prithviraj Kapoor, the younger brother of Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor.

Shashi Kapoor made his debut as a leading man in the 1961 film Dharmputra and went on to appear in 116 Hindi films, including 61 films as the solo lead hero and 55 multi star-cast films, 21 films as supporting actor and seven films in a special appearance. He was a very popular actor in Bollywood during the 60s, 70s and until the mid 80s. He has also acted in numerous English and American films, making him one of India’s first actors to go international.

5 of Shashi Kapoor’s most memorable moments

1. Mesmerising dialogues like “Mere Paas Maa Hai”

2. Truly mesmerizing songs like ‘Yeh Raasta Hai Zindagi’

3. Shashi Kapoor’s Unique Dance

4. In 2011, Shashi Kapoor was honoured with the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India for his contributions to Art-Cinema. In 2015, he was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, making him the third member of his family to receive the highest award in Indian Cinema, after his father and brother Prithviraj Kapoor and Raj Kapoor, respectively.

5. Shashi acted in plays directed and produced by his father Prithviraj Kapoor, while travelling with Prithvi Theatres.

He started acting in films as a child in the late 1940s, using the name ‘Shashiraj’, as there was another actor at the time by his real name. As a child star, his best known performances were in Aag (1948) and Awaara (1951), where he played the younger version of the characters played by his older brother Raj Kapoor, and in Sangram (1950), where he played younger version of Ashok Kumar.

Shashi Kapoor’s career spanned Indian and international cinema. He was as renowned for his theatre work as he was for movies. Shashi Kapoor was married to actress Jennifer Kendal and is survived by his sons Karan and Kunal and daughter Sanjana Kapoor.

Shashi Kapoor’s versatility could be seen in his movies as well as in theatre, which he promoted with great passion. His brilliant acting will be remembered for generations to come. The entire country has been saddened by his demise. Our condolences to his family and admirers.

Bucket List : Madhuri’s Maiden Marathi Film Is Promising With A Great Plot

Bucket List, Madhuri Dixit, Maiden, Marathi Film

Actress Madhuri Dixit Nene will be back on screen after four years, with a Marathi film. She shared the poster for Bucket List, calling it her first film in Marathi.

The poster shows her in a simple green sari with a big smile on her face. She stands against a list of words, which we assume are her roles in the movie: Housewife, Mother, Friend, Sister and another that reads something like ‘Founder.’

Earlier, the makers had described the project as a slice-of-life film that revolves around the journey of self-realisation of a woman (Madhuri), with a dash of humour.

The film is being produced by Karan Johar, it has the large screen appeal and the feels found in all his movies. It has also been a long time since Renuka Shahane and Madhuri Dixit shared screen space. The last they shared screen space was in Hum Aapke Hain Kaun.

CarryMinati Portrays The Story Of A Cringe Pop Artist

Cringe pop, the new vocabulary in the social media world, for videos that go viral for all the wrong reasons. Cringe pop is the sub-genre dealing with music. They are repulsive, yet viral. They annoy you, but you still want to watch them because the whole world is talking about them. When you click on the link, the next 15 minutes of your life is cringe-worthy. But, that does not stop you from sharing the videos on your timeline.

Music lovers might cringe at the thought, but ‘cringe-pop’ has emerged as the newest sensation.

Ajey Nagar aka CarryMinati recently made a sketch where he portrayed the story of a cringe pop artist. In the sketch, Ajay played the fictitious character, Yo Yo Bantai Rapper.

The sketch depicts the rejections, exploitation and challenges faced by Bantai Rapper at every stage of his struggle. Right from being rejected at various talent shows (which he rightly deserved) to being exploited and abused (the harsh reality), he has seen it all. However, the sustained passion for his work makes him an internet sensation, but for the wrong song. When he tried to rap for a social cause, it was given a cold acceptance by the audience. This made him realise that the such social content hardly gets an audience. So he continues with his random songs to gain popularity.

Music is Extra Territorial : 4 Indian Songs That Became International Hits

Here are 4 Indian songs that went viral across the globe before ‘going viral’ was a thing!

1. Mundian To Bach Ke

In 2002, Panjabi MC jammed cross-cultural airwaves with their song “Mundian To Bach Ke“ that went on to become a breakout international smash hit the top 20 in at least 15 countries. Sung in Punjabi, the fusion hip-hop groove went on to sell an estimated 10 million copies worldwide. The record also reached the number one spot in Italy and Belgium, and number two spot in Germany (where it sold over 100,000 units in two days!).

2. I Am A Disco Dancer

Released in 1982, the movie ‘Disco Dancer’ rocked the popularity charts at home and across the Soviet Union. Throughout the 80s, the dance halls at Russian summer resorts resounded with the beats of ‘I Am a Disco Dancer’, instantly transforming Mithun into one of the most loved next-gen Indian actors in the country.

Here’s an interesting anecdote from those days: When Mikhail Gorbachev visited India, Rajiv Gandhi introduced him to Amitabh Bachchan as India’s greatest superstar. It is believed that Gorbachev’s reply was that his wife only knew Raj Kapoor and his daughter only knew Mithun Chakraborty!

3. Tunak Tunak Tun

Most songs fade from public memory in no time, while few manage to stay a little longer on their minds. Then there are those iconic ones that go on to build a cult following for themselves. Daler Mehndi’s 1998 song ‘Tunak Tunak Tun’ is one of these.

From Germany to Korea, the song became a rage among youngsters across the world after its release in the late 1990s. Mehndi’s iconic Bhangra steps in the video were also practised and replicated by these ardent fans. Recently, martial arts expert and megastar Jackie Chan shook a leg to Mehndi’s tunes at the 17th Shanghai Film Festival (the video went viral in no time).

4. Why This Kolaveri Di

Released in 200, the song “Kolaveri Di” became an instant hit and was the most searched video on Youtube by November 2011. Despite being a slow-beat track, the song’s catchy colloquial lyrics and amazingly groovy rendition (by Dhanush) also ensured that it became a global rage overnight, quickly garnering more than 125 million views (the first Indian song to reach this coveted mark). Voted the Top Song by CNN in 2012, Kolaveri Di also stood third in the global music list giving a tough time to Lady Gaga.
