Mental peace is a much-sought personal state today. With the pace of our lives increasing manifold, it is of prime importance to have a stable and healthy mind. The right way of living life is something we all try to figure out and find the answer to, the attainment of which becomes easier if we have a guide in our lives who can educate us with his/her own experiences. The following interview of Gaur Gopal Das gives us a beautiful insight into prime lessons of life.

Hailing from Pune, Gaur Gopal Das enlightens us about his life experiences and how he embraced monkhood. As a child, he didn’t imagine himself as a social media influencer or public personality, however he always knew that he wanted to make a change and impact the world in a positive way. He feels that he was lucky enough to be surrounded by people who directed him this direction of spiritual progress. He talks about his experiences in the monastery, where he spent 15 years and built the foundation of his life- how he learnt about the importance of humility, how he learnt to not be distracted by both, the lack of necessities and their abundance, and many more important lessons. He believes that “the greatest killer of our growth is to give in to what society thinks you should be doing.”

How did a University topper come to be a monk? What does he have to offer to the world? Does he know something that can change our perspective for ever? On the latest episode of The Ranveer Show, Gaur Gopal Das shares the deep life lessons, relationships and stories from monk life. To know more, click on the link below now!

The Inspiring Story Of The Financial Genius: Raghuram Rajan

Today, we wish Raghuram Rajan, one of the most intelligent professors, an incredible RBI Governor and an inspiring human being a very happy birthday.

Published

on

Raghuram Rajan

A country’s progress is, to a great extent, determined by its economic progress. Along with social and political factors, economic factors are paramount in deciding a nation’s state as developed or underdeveloped. Hence economists and policy planners of a nation play an indispensable role in the development of a country. Raghuram Govind Rajan is one such economist and RBI ex-Governor whose contribution to the country’s economic affairs is worth mentioning.

Born in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, Rajan had a childhood full of commotion. From Indonesia to Sri Lanka to Belgium, he finally did his graduation from IIT Delhi and got his MBA degree from IIM Ahmedabad. He did his Ph.D. under the supervision of Stewart Myers which was titled Essays on Banking. His progress in the field of economics has been remarkable. He has taught in various prestigious colleges and universities and has played a key role in policymaking. After the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis, he was approached by American economist Anne Kreuger, the then deputy managing director of IMF, to help IMF strengthen its financial expertise. At 40, he was the youngest individual to be appointed as the chief economist in the IMF.

Rajan wrote extensively on banking, finance and corporate structure. His book “Fault Lines: How hidden fractures still threaten the world economy” won the Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award. He is ranked among the most influential economists and featured among the top 5% authors in the world. He was one of the very few people in the world who predicted the 2008 sub-prime crisis. In 2007, the deputy chairman of the Planning Commission, India, asked him to write a report on financial sector reforms in India. In 2008, Dr. Manmohan Singh appointed him as an honorary economic advisor and was then appointed as the chief economic advisor to India’s Ministry of Finance.

Raghuram Rajan took charge as the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India for a term of 3 years. He currently teaches finance at the University of Chicago. Rajan’s extraordinary achievements in the field of economics are highly inspiring. One such inspiring moment was when he was nominated for the Nobel Prize for Economics in 2017. That says a lot about his intellect. He sets an example for all young Indians, being acknowledged all over the world for his skill and expertise. He undoubtedly made a strong mark, as an Indian, in the field of economics.

Today, we wish, one of the most intelligent professors, an incredible RBI Governor and an inspiring human being, a very happy birthday.

Brightening The Future With His Light Experiments: C.V. Raman

Today, on the birth anniversary on one of India’s most stalwart scientist, we pay tribute to him and his significant contribution to science.

Published

on

C.V. Raman

“I am the master of my failure…If I never fail, how will I ever learn?” – C.V. Raman.

Science as we know it, has been vital to human civilization for consistent progress. From the earth being believed to be flat, then round, now spheroid and presently having GPS systems and google maps laying before us nook and corners of the earth, science has been man’s constant companion. However, the process of advancement has been a very gradual one. Each discovery, invention or theory took years of research and acted as a step forward to better understand the universe, matter and the vast enigma associated with it. The contribution of C.V. Raman to this indispensable study makes him a man worth remembering and an inspirational figure for all.

Descending from a humble Hindu family, Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman was the second of the eight children his parents had. His father was a teacher of mathematics and physics, and later got a job as a lecturer and hence they moved to Visakhapatnam. Won’t be wrong to say it ran in the genes, now would it? Raman was greatly interested in Science from a very young age and started to borrow books on science from his father’s college library. In 1903, aged just 14, Raman set off to Madras, and began his bachelor’s degree at Presidency College. He completed his degree in 1904, winning medals in physics. Judging his intellect, his British lecturers encouraged him to study for a master’s degree in the United Kingdom. However, he was advised against it by his doctor as his heath was not strong enough to cope up with England’s harsh climate.

Thus, he stayed in India and continued his research. In the summer of 1921, when on the deck of a ship, he looked at the beautiful blue colour of the Mediterranean Sea and went onto discover that sea scatters light. His work on light and its behaviour, very commonly known as the Raman effect was one of his greatest achievements. He was knighted in 1929.

Being the first physicist in Asia to receive a Nobel Prize for Physics in 1930, he created a spot for India in the spectrum of scientific achievements of the world. It holds great significance also because, at a time when Indians were considered inferior, uncivilised, barbaric and looked down upon by the British imperialists, C.V. Raman proved the metal of India’s brainpower and acuteness.

Dr B Ramana Rao

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” Dr. Ramana Rao epitomizes this virtue of selfless service.

Born in Hyderabad in 1951, Dr. Rao started his free village clinic on the very next day of his graduation on 15th August 1973. The clinic is situated in T.Begur, which is 35 km from Bangalore on the Bangalore-Pune National Highway. Since then every Sunday, he has been serving his patients for free, along with providing free meals to those who travel long distances to get treated.

Accompanied by his wife, his two sons (who are also doctors) and dozen of volunteers from the villages, he has treated numerous people for free. From primary health checkups of oral health, skin, eye care to expensive medicines, injections and nebulisation are given free of cost to patients. Besides, free cataract surgery is also done at the clinic.

His belief that everyone has the right to live with dignity, ensured him to create this drastic difference in people’s lives. Through the Raj Prakash Trust, “he works towards providing free medical treatment for thousands of rural communities who cannot afford the treatment.”

A Padma Shri recipient, Dr. Rao is also conferred with Dr. Abdul Kalam National Award among many others. As an exemplary epitome of selfless service, he is a true inspiration to us all.
