Bangalore born Pruthvi Bariti, known by his stage name Yung Kat, graduated from Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology where he began recording music and started releasing music videos.
Sometimes big things happen to us in the most unexpected moments; something that is bound to happen, happens. Yung was introduced to music in eleventh Standard in an unordinary way too. He states, “When I was in 11th grade, there was an event in my college. A beatboxer came onto the stage and started beatboxing. There was an amazing response from the crowd which I loved.”
Speaking of inspiration, Yung shares he has been inspired by the mainstream Bollywood rapper RAFTAAR and the American rapper RUSS. “RUSS inspires me the most as I’ve learnt about being independent, consistent and serious about my music from his journey as an artist.” He adds. “I started rapping in my college days after listening to RAFTAAR.”
Starting off wasn’t easy. Yung started off as a complete beginner and made his own way by learning more about the art and researching about it. With no background learning or training, Yung learned editing and mixing himself. With different encounters with more learned and experienced rappers in the rap scene of his city, he explored and learned more. “In this process, I got to know about Mixing and Mastering. As a college student it was difficult for me to spend Rs. 3000-4000 for mixing and mastering, hence I started learning to do it on my own. After an year of practice and experience gained by working on my songs, I started providing Mixing and Mastering as a service to other rappers by charging a small amount of Rs.500.” he elaborates on how he started saving and earning on his own for his own music.
Yung is also open to learning and listening to new genres of music as well as underground artists. “I try to be versatile by adding pop, RnB, melodies etc. to my music.” He mentions how listening to different artists and genres also affects and influences his own music. Yung is a true rapper in terms of writing his own raps; the black American Rapper-Singer-Songwriter Nicki Minaj once said rappers write their own raps- Yung Kat fits the standard. He tells us how his mood would affect his pen. “I will write a sad song if I am feeling low or write a love song when I speak to the person I like etc. So it all depends on the mood. The vibe at a moment helps me make original pieces.” He adds.
Just like any other artist, Yung also loves the idea of creating something physical from his mere thoughts. His work is his top priority and he believes mere talent isn’t enough for one; working hard is also important in order to reach somewhere. He shares how his habit of writing also had some part in bringing rap to him. “I used to write a lot during school days, so rap came to me incidentally. But to turn rap into good songs could happen only by the effort that I put into It.” he mentions how he had to learn melodies and flows to perfect his formation of rap from his
