Corona Virus: A Short Film On This Eye Opening Pandemic

Corona – End of the world, is a thought provoking short film, it perfectly fits the current situation and provides an overview of the future.

Corona Virus

Amid this unfortunate pandemic that has struck the world, many people are contemplating over the philosophical attributes of this disaster. Maybe its karma, maybe nature is restoring its peace and paying us back for the exploitation that humans have inflicted on it, maybe the real virus is not COVID 19, but the human race itself. The terror created by this microorganism has forced people to sit at their homes and think about their actions. The same is the theme of this short film titled, Corona Virus- COVID 19.

The movie, set in 2049, advocates the idea of sustainable development, of using our resources in a way that we don’t compromise the ability of our future generations to meet their needs. Written and directed by Dushyant Kapoor, the film begins with a man digging up the earth for a few drops of water. The scorching heat leaves him exhausted; his lips are parched and his throat is dry with thirst. He has visions of his friend with whom he talks about the misused and exploited state of the earth. This scene is subsequently followed by others which raise questions on the objectionable treatment of nature and environment by humans, many of whom were killed by COVID 19 and some who fled the earth to Mars.

Corona Virus, a thought provoking film, perfectly fits the current situation and provides an overview of the future, the disastrous state which might be, if things and actions are not controlled in time.

Throwback Thursday With The Tabla Maestro: Zakir Hussain

Today, on Throwback Thursday, we celebrate the legendary tabla maestro, Zakir Hussain through some of his memorable performances.

Zakir Hussain

Indian classical music is believed to be one of the toughest and most challenging musical forms prevalent in the present-day world. It is very often related to ancient myths and has an element of spirituality associated with it. It is pious and holds a much more deeper meaning to it as compared to modern-day music. One of the master practitioners of Hindustani classical music is Ustad Zakir Hussain, the very famous tabla player who is also a composer, music producer and film actor.

Born to the famous tabla player Ustad Allah Rakha, he had an inclination towards music since the onset of his life and was considered a child prodigy when he gave his first performance at the age of seven. His mastery over this art, however, was attained by a lot of hard-work and commitment. As a child, he rehearsed with his father from 3:00 AM to 6:00 AM early morning. Pretty tough, isn’t it? He worked with other famous instrumentalists like sitar maestro Ravi Shankar and soon began his international tours with up to 150 concerts a year. He featured in the famous album “Planet Drum” wherein he had a chance to work with outstanding drummers from all over the world. The album won the prestigious Grammy Award twice, first for “Best World Music album” and “Best Contemporary World Music Album”. He has been honoured with awards of national importance like Padma Shree and Padma Bhushan for his remarkable work in the field of music.

Indians like Zakir Hussain manifest the beauties of Indian culture and heritage and play a key role in demonstrating it to the world. His truthfulness, loyalty and commitment towards his art makes him shine out as a great tabla artist, not just in India but around the globe.

Today, on Throwback Thursday, we celebrate this legendary tabla maestro through some of his memorable performances.

Welcoming The Festival of Colours With Fervour & Zeal: Holi

May the vibrant colours of life fill every phase of your existence. We at The Talented Indian, wish you all a very happy and vibrant Holi.

वृन्दावन की होली लठमार,
मथुरा की होली फुलमार|
रंगों की आई फुहार,
मुबारख हो होली का त्योहार|

The festival of colours is here to set the mood of life in celebration and joy. Mythologically, there are numerous legends associated with it, like the tradition of burning Holika or the ‘Holika dahan’ or celebration of the death of Ogress Pootana who tried to kill infant Krishna by feeding poisonous milk to it and many more. Eventually, it signifies the power and victory of truth, morality and goodness over evil.

May the vibrant colours of life fill every phase of your existence. A very happy Holi to all! We bring you some shades of dance, music and comedy this Holi.

Powerful And Inspiring Messages This Women’s Day

This women’s day, let us take a look at these short videos which carry important and inspirational messages which every woman needs to hear and know.

Women's Day

Simone de Beauvoir invokes her book The Second Sex (1949), the famous sentence when she writes ‘One is not born a woman; rather, one becomes a woman’. I don’t think womanhood could be stated any more clearly. A child is not born with limitations, it is the conditioning of the society which thrusts passive notions, boundaries and limitations on womanhood.

A woman is not any less abled than a man, yet she is undermined when it comes to important tasks and is expected to tend to get household duties and keep her man satisfied. The fight for respect and equal rights has been going on and will be going on until the world becomes a safer and better place for women all around the globe.

Hence, this women’s day, let us take a look at these short videos which carry important and inspirational messages which every woman needs to hear and know.

I am not a type‘ is an insightful and beautiful piece by Roopam Sharma describing that women do not fit into any stereotype. They are what they want to be and that is absolutely okay.

‘Story of a Housewives’ is a short film directed by Raja Ram Mukerji which revolves around the different personas a woman is expected to live up to. It follows the story of an average working married woman who efficiently works for and looks after her family but all she wants in return is some respect, consideration and love.

Priya Malik composes and narrates a powerful poem titled ‘Art Has no Gender’ which reflects on how women are associated with their gender first and their achievements often take a back seat. She talks about famous and outstanding women who made a mark on the world, and yet, were looked at as women first and then scientists, artists or poets.

‘The Many Roles of a Woman’ is a short video which defies the confines of womanhood and expresses women as humans first, humans with their feelings, passions, desires, ambitions and demeanors irrespective of what society demands from their gender.

‘Tum Kaise Ho’ is a sweet song by Tony Kakkar which urges women to embrace themselves as they are, to be comfortable with the imperfections and to know that they’re all beautiful in their own way.

U-Turn is a short film written by Supriya Shukla which reminds women to hold themselves in high esteem and respect themselves. It talks of the issue of domestic violence and how no woman deserves to be treated that way, and should raise her voice, if and when subjected to such treatment.
