We’re all fueled by passion. The world is moving, evolving, and continuously developing because of passionate people. That’s what Chinmay Sharma rightfully describes passion as. Universally, and painfully true, as Chinmay says, “Passion is a beautiful word, but pursuing one’s passion is equally daunting, because everyone says, ‘Pursue Your Passion’ but nobody tells how.” A person can have multiple passions, that’s what keeps us alive and thriving. The world will never be full of passionate people. Following one’s dreams, especially if it’s under the ‘unconventional career/profession’, tag can be demotivating, difficult, and one of the courageous steps an artist takes.

The Journey of Following the Dream

Chinmay doesn’t have a goal, he has multiple ultimate goals. During his childhood, the internet was this dreamland of his where he could see his dreams turning into realities. He searched for adventurous career jobs, which included deep sea jobs, or jobs in the deadliest of the places on the planet. That exciting perspective never left Chinmay’s keen eye. He was sure that one of his goals has always been to make his life as interesting as possible. Another of his long-term goals has been meeting people, being inspired by them, and inspiring them through his own works.

According to Chinmay, the first lesson he ever learnt in this journey was to never take one’s passion and work for granted. One must hold on to one’s passion dearly. For Chinmay, cycling and meeting people was his dream, his passion, but because cycling and people stayed with him all the time, he took it for granted. Chinmay says that one needs to connect the dots to take one’s passion to the next level, slowly and gradually.

Growing up, Chinmay has realised that motivation will always come from within us. Our idols can be our inspiration, but the will to work on ourselves comes from our inner selves.

When asked what the first thing you felt when you accomplished one of your dreams, Chinmay replied, “That’s it? That’s how easy it was? Now, I need to take myself to the next level.” Making the best use of resources available to him and organising them is how he works on himself.

Stacking up his goals, with a strong mindset, Chinmay is still on the path of owning all that he desires.

Role of Failures

All of us have tasted failures, and will probably come face to face with it in our future as well. They might have broken us, but they surely made us stand stronger.

To know how important failures really are in our lives, Chinmay narrated one of his school instances. Failing in three subjects in his 11th grade showed him the mirror of harsh truth. Chinmay is grateful to that event, because it taught him a lesson way earlier in life. It made him see the flaws in himself, the multiple paths through which he could have prospered, and the change which came through that. Since then, Chinmay has cherished his failures with all his heart!

Failures open many doors to our goals. Through our losses, we learn new things. More importantly, failures diminish the risk-taking ability in us. For passionate artists, pursuing their passion as a profession, in this money run society is one of the biggest risks they take. Failure lets us take that leap of jump again and again, because every time we take one jump and fail, we know we won’t fall below the step we took the jump from. The taboos surrounding failures need to break. We must detach all negative connotations from failures and instead celebrate them.

Artists: The Unconventionals Breaking the Norms

On asking about his thoughts on ‘how the society degrades people going for ‘unconventional’ career paths’, Chinmay instantly replied, “Unless and until something is done, it’s going to stay unconventional only.” Artists, in their ways of thinking and living, are creative and unique. Their inventions and contributions to the world are immaculate. All around us, it is only those people who took an unbalanced, unsure step which led them to the highest echelons of success. The current world of Artificial Intelligence and visuals is proof that unconventionality escaped the ordinary and is standing the strongest today, and will continue to do so, doesn’t matter what the society says.

Chinmay as a sports person gets a lot of remarks about his choice of career and profession. The most common line goes, “You can’t play all your life.” However, Chinmay has an answer to that too. In later age, Chinmay still can work as a fitness coach, technical assistance, or in the operational management of the sports, or in the promotional sectors, etc. There are endless possibilities. These possibilities can be harnessed to higher levels if the correct ecosystem and mindset are developed in the country. Artistic endeavours should be viewed from a different and a worthy perspective.
