Shameless Yet Mostly Sane : Prajakta Koli

Prajakta always wanted to be a radio jockey and she decided it at the age of 6 that she will be called ‘RJ Prajakta’. When everyone in class wanted to be a princess or an astronaut, she felt like quite a rebel screaming – RADIO JOCKEY!

Her final year exams ended on a Saturday and on the following Wednesday, she was already interning at a Radio Station in Mumbai. But as days passed, she realized it wasn’t as much fun in person as it was in her head. However, after interning for 9 months, she still managed to bag the late night show on the channel, which she considers the best day ever! After an awesome first week, she somehow hated listening to herself on the radio. Quite expectantly, she was pulled down and replaced by another RJ after 3 months.

But during the stint as a radio intern, she happened to have her ‘Happily Ever After’ moment with Hrithik Roshan. He had visited the studios for a promotional event and Prajakta being a die-hard fan ran upto him for a selfie. She recorded a video with him for her Instagram. Things changed when she Instagrammed a series of videos with Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan. In one of videos, Koli and Roshan are seen having a bizarre conversation, which begins with her saying, “Oh My God!” and the superstar repeating it.

Koli describes the videos as stupid, but Sudeep Lahiri from One Digital Entertainment thought they were brilliant. Sudeep Lahiri reached out to her and suggested that she should start a YouTube Channel and make videos. Back then she thought that it was the stupidest advice ever given to her. It was the toughest decision of her life, to choose to leave radio and start making YouTube videos. But now she considers it the BEST DECISION EVER!

As she had no idea of YouTube and no references, so everything on the channel has worked pretty much on Trial-And-Error.

Talking about YouTube as a career option she says that it is a full-time job. Although it takes some time to set the ball rolling, but eventually when you find your feet and you understand what your audience likes, it’s the best thing ever. Consistency and content is the key. People want quick entertainment and consistency which helps in retaining the audience. Content on the other hand, is what helps to get that audience.

When our team reached out to Prajakta to enquire about her future plans she said, “As far as future plans are concerned, I love how YouTube as a platform surprises me with its endless possibilities and would like to keep it that way for now.”

Dhruv Rathee : Setting Benchmarks for Investigative and Responsible Activism

Dhruv Rathee, a masters student in renewable energy engineering and a YouTuber, who uses the platform to create awareness through videos relating to political, economic, social and environmental issues.

Clean energy, nature & environment conservation, social activism are his passions. Since high school days itself, he used to follow & participate in online campaigns from Greenpeace, Sea Shepard, WWF.

Learning & researching about new things is his main hobby. He says “Till the age of 16 years, reading detective books was my favorite pastime. I finished the whole series of Feluda books, written by Satyajit Ray. Looking back, that seems like the most probable place where my habit of deducing, critical thinking and reaching to the core of an issue comes from.” He is also interested in martial arts like Wing Tsun, Bo Staff Kung Fu and Scuba Diving. Dhruv further added, “Just last year, I got PADI certified for advanced level diver (depths of upto 100 feet) which involved diving in a variety of different environments like shipwrecks, cold water and night time in the open sea. It’s a whole new world down there to learn about & for some people it completely changes the way you look at life.”

Interest in filmmaking, activism and sharing the right ideas among the people motivated him to take up YouTube. So far, his journey has been above expectations. The unique style of speaking, presenting the facts in a very lucid manner and stating to the point makes him popular among his audience.

In future, he plans to start an alternative media and activism revolution on social media with a view to set benchmark in investigative and responsible activism. It has enormous potential to replace the outdated and noisy news channels as primary source of news. Currently, the focus is on “The Dhruv Rathee Show”, which provides all important news and perspectives, which were missed or intentionally buried by the mainstream media.

Dhruv states that YouTube and other social media have massive potential in not only bringing a social change, but also influencing individual choices and government decisions. Like any other tool, it can be used positively or exploited for unfair purposes. Fake News websites have exploited emotions of the people for undue gains. Computer Bots have been used to manipulate perceptions among the public and influence voting choices. This has been seen not only in India but across the world, like the Russian bots which were used to influence the US elections. However, internet and social media have made the world freest now, as people living in this age can get their voices heard in much better way than any time in the human history.



When asked about the most pressing problems of the world, Dhruv said, “The single biggest problem the world is facing today is climate change and biodiversity destruction. It is interconnected with the problem of garbage and waste. I don’t see much working in favor of solving it today. Maybe in 20-30 years, something comes up which would give more hope. But as of now, we can only reduce the impact of climate change. In India too, I feel that the biggest problems are environment related like air pollution, water pollution, disappearing rivers and biodiversity, excessive waste production. Most require a combined effort from the government and in citizens behavior to solve them. I’m sure we can make our country a better place to live in if everyone works together to changing our consuming / buying / using habits and attitudes. Awareness plays a huge part in it and that’s where my work comes in.”

From A Software Engineer to a Dancing Diva : Sonali Bhadauria

Sonali Bhadauria is a self-trained dancer and a YouTube content creator. Although self-trained, she joined a couple of Shaimak Davar batches when she was in college using the money her dad gave her for coaching classes. However, TV and YouTube were her main source of learning. Being from a middle class family, she was never supposed to become a dancer and never got enough exposure or training. With only 2 career choices of Doctor and Engineer, she ended up being a Software Engineer at Infosys.

However, she never gave up on dancing.  She kept learning dance from YouTube artists like Matt Steffanina and Wildabeast. Although aware of YouTube being a big platform but never had the confidence to upload on it, as she wasn’t sure if people would like it. While in Infosys, she joined the official dance group of Infosys called “Crazy Legs” and continued her passion for dancing there.

She started LiveToDance as a wedding choreography venture and started taking up assignments. For easing out the whole process she started making videos for future use. And one day she just thought of uploading it on YouTube on her channel ‘LiveToDance with Sonali’.  She got great response from her audience. On a friends advice she took YouTube seriously and began her journey as a YouTube creator.

The turning point to her YouTube career was with a hiphop dance routine on the song ‘Nashe Si Chadh Gayi’ from the movie ‘Befikre’. The video became a super hit with 15 million views in 9 months.

When our team reached out to Sonali she said, “YouTube has changed my life completely. The online platform has given me an opportunity to showcase my work and get recognized. The number of brand deals, video collaborations and events have increased after I started uploading my routines and videos on YouTube. Moreover I train a lot of students my style of dance and their love is so amazing!”

Some of videos that she did before she was a YouTube content creator. Back then she did it just for fun and they motivated her to pursue dance as a career.
