Human society ensures that every single individual gets a right to live. Unfortunately in this reality, it is ironic that one must constantly be at war to guarantee greater peace. Some of us take it upon themselves to uphold the sanctity and safety of our nation. Nowhere in this universe is there a mandate that instructs a person to lead their lives in a certain way, yet these people choose to give up their freedom and life to protect those who probably would never even make the effort of remembering their names.
Wild Buffaloes Entertainment brings us an incredible eight-minute short film called ‘Tum ho to hum hai’ (We exist only because you do). It is a fictionalised scenario in which four soldiers bear the weight of a heavy conversation while also bearing the brunt of their weapons. The film makes a point to stab those of us with the privilege to criticise with the reality that soldiers are human too. They are not blood-thirsty and ravenous people who live for war, albeit they are simply feeling humans who make a brave choice. The short is written, directed and produced by Divyansh Pandit who has managed to bring a paradigm shift in our thoughts with a mere eight minutes.
The actors do an incredible job in showing the depth of the conversation in a very subtle manner. They enforce the feeling that a solider is just someone who gave up their dream so that we could live out ours. It is not as marked by patriotism as it is marked with a distinct sense of humanity leaves us hoping that in a world where we are ready to give heaps of attention to everybody, we don’t miss out on honouring those who make sure our identities remain.
