Ujala in the Hearts & Minds : A Short Film by Abhedya Art Works

Published

on

Ujala, Abhedya, Art Works, Navaldeep Singh, Krishnan Iyer, Mohammed Sadriwala

Ujala is a short film based on one of the most iconic judgments of the Supreme Court that came out in 2018, and will be remembered for the years to come. The historic judgment declared some parts of Section 377 of IPC unconstitutional, made our society more inclusive and equal at large.

Ujala is a story about a teenage girl named Yuvika, who decides to talk about her sexual choices with her parents a week before Diwali. Kanchan Khilare, who plays Yuvika’s role was first noticed by the director during a play and was chosen for this film. Sushila Karani playing Yuvika’s mother is a Homemaker and Krishnan Iyer playing Yuvika’s Father is a Lawyer who has been doing Spoken Word for a year now, were flawless in their first acting assignment.

Conceptualized by a renowned poet Mohammed Sadriwala, this idea was converted into a short film by the director Navaldeep Singh. In his words, Navaldeep is a lover by default, a lunatic by chance and a poet by choice. He grew to fame with his first poetry video Tiranga released by UnErase Poetry.

Watch this Short Film now as this will surely bring a smile on your face this Diwali.

Devi: The Brutal Irony of Indian Society

Devi, a short film by Priyanka Banerjee, talks about the brutal irony of Indian society and sheds light on the predicament of women in Indian society.

Published

on

Devi

One can hardly estimate the pain a person goes through, during any mishap, until one experiences it himself/herself. Talking of sexual harassments, rapes and violence against women, it is hard to empathise with victims, it is hard to understand the trauma or the suffering, it is quite often beyond comprehension. And so, we frequently end up blaming the sufferer, which are more or less projections of our denial, denial of the fact that something so gruesome can happen to us too, that we too can be prey to such heinous crimes. We try to comfort our conscience by rationalising, that maybe wearing longer skirts or avoiding public transport or not staying out at late hours can save us from these mishaps; the “precautions” should have been taken, it’s the woman’s fault, she wasn’t vigilant enough. Through these arguments, we are not only trying to unsuccessfully veil our own insecurities but also fuelling criminals, because it wasn’t their fault in the first place, was it?

Devi, a short film by Priyanka Banerjee, featuring leading female actresses including Kajol, Shruti Haasan, Neha Dhupia and many more, sheds light on the predicament of women in Indian society. With a single room as its set, the film harbours conversations between rape victims who were brutally murdered or burnt alive. They are arguing amongst themselves on whether another dead, rape victim should be let in their compact one-room abode or not. They try setting parameters to decide who stays and who leaves, in the process of which they reveal the inhuman treatment they were subjected to and ultimately reconcile, deciding to let the victim come in. Their hearts ache in unison and the eyes of the inhabitants fill up with tears when they receive a little girl, of not more than 10, among their clique of raped and murdered.

College Wala Pyaar: The Art of Not Giving A Damn

College wala pyaar, casting Shreya Gupto and Ambrish Verma, is a short film which caters to the obsession of caring too much about what others think.

Published

College wala pyaar

I have come to realize that in the 21st century, we care a bit too much about what people think about us. We’re always trying to adhere to the narrow beauty standards set by models or companies trying to promote their products and sometimes our inability to do so makes us feel self-conscious, incompetent and sad. The truth is, no matter how hard we try, people will never stop judging and we can never satisfy everyone. When we try to perfect our looks, maybe our accent isn’t good enough, when we try to work on our accent, our waist isn’t thin enough, it is a never-ending cycle of ifs and buts.

College wala pyaar, directed by Anahad Madhav casting Shreya Gupto and Ambrish Verma is a short film which caters to this very obsession of caring too much about what others think and always trying hard to be like the “cool kid” or trying hard to “fit in”. It shows the life of two young students who find themselves in miserable positions- a girl who tries hard too maintain her weight by going on diets, trying to grab on to more Instagram followers, wanting to be a part of the “perfect looking” girls and is unhappy in her attempts to do so; a boy who feels he looks gloomy all the time and is embarrassed of his inability to be fluent in the English language and is constantly being rejected in his interviews for the same.

The two students plagued by insecurities get to talking at a college party, form a close connection and decide to turn their lives around by “not giving a damn”. How do they come to this conclusion? Well click on the link below to find out!

Valentine’s Day Special Short Film: Kaande Pohe

The adorable short film Kaande Pohe, starring Ahsaas Channa & Tushar Pandey is a cute addition to your Valentine’s celebration.

Published

Kaande Pohe

21st century love is full of bitter sweet twists and turns. Unlike in the previous centuries and with increasing awareness among people, partners expect their lover to respect them and accept them as they are. Kaande Pohe is a sweet short film on the theme of respecting your partner’s choices and believing in their capabilities and decisions.

The film starts with a typical Indian set up, the first meet of a boy and a girl in an arranged marriage setting. The parents have a brief talk and ask the duo to spend some time alone on the terrace. The boy hesitantly starts the conversations and assures the girl that he is open minded. He also tells her that he would want her to work after her college as most of his friends’ wives do so. The girls surprises him and says that she is already working and has a career. The boy is taken aback and says that her parents never mentioned anything about her job. The girl reveals her starkly ‘unconventional’ job which is not confined by four walls of an office. The movie has some funny twists and has a remarkably cute end.

A Terribly Tiny Tales presentation, ‘Kaande Pohe’ is directed by Shubham Yogi, produced by Anuj Gosalia and co-produced by Savio Shenoy. The screenplay and dialogues are written by Shubham Yogi, based on the story by Sharanya Rajgopal and stars Ahsaas Channa, Tushar Pandey, Sameer Deshpandey, Sandhya Kute, Monu Kanojiya and Harsha Gupte.

The adorable short film is a cute addition to your Valentine’s celebration, click on the link below to find out what happens!

A Short Film Highlighting Healing Power Of A “Stranger”

Stranger, a short film written by Niharieka Mishra and directed by Arpit Jain, highlights that some encounters change our lives forever.

Published

Stranger

Some encounters change our lives forever, our perception changes and we start viewing things in life like never before. Stranger is a film illustrating how a man changes the life of a young boy forever.

Directed by Arpit Jain, the film begins with the image of a passed-out youth, lying on the road with a bottle of alcohol in his hand. A man stops his car and finds him unconscious in the middle of the road. Like any other passer-by, he could’ve left him in his unfortunate state, but rather, he gets out of his car and decided to help him. He attempts to bring him back to consciousness and guesses the reasons for his distraught state. The boy, once brilliant, had recently quit his job which came as a shock to his father and severed the relations between the two. Unable to cope up with the pressures of professional life, he found himself without an aim and thus believed himself to be a “living dead body”. The stranger comes to his rescue and helps him realise his follies and explained to him how wrong he was in his perception of life. With this kind gesture, the youth’s life changes for the good and he recollects this incidence while standing on the balcony of his apartment.

The beautiful short film is written by Niharieka Mishra and stars Satyam Anand, Vishakha kumari, Ram Kashyap and Himanshu Luthra. It is produced by Sadhana Jain, Suresh Jain and Arpit Jain, while the cinematography is done by Khushmita Kaushik. The video ends with a beautiful quote which summarises the short film, click below to find out now!

Kaash: An Eye Opening Short Film About The Story Of Regret

Kaash, a short film directed by Priyanka Tanwar provides us a vital life lesson of being strong and standing up for our dreams and aspirations, always.

Published

Kaash Short Film

Our life is, to a great extent, the result of our decisions. Ups and downs are a part of everyone’s life, however our decisions shape and define the course of our life. More often than not, we have to make some decisions which greatly impact the kind of life we’ll lead. And it’s natural to be scared or to make decisions which don’t ensure our happiness but of those around us. But in such cases, one’s mind often wanders back to the point when the decision had to be made and the question of “what if” fails to leave the mind. “Kaash”, a short film directed by Priyanka Tanwar, throws light on the crucial moments of decision making.

It talks about a passionate artist who gives up his art for he is too scared to give up a job offer as a Chartered Accountant. His conscience doesn’t absolve him of his guilt and he feels like a criminal for killing the dreams of his childhood self and for creating a ceaseless remorse in his older self. The movie also talks about the importance of parental support and how if parents want their child to be truly happy, they help him/her to make the right decisions.

An eye opening film, it provides a vital lesson of being strong and standing up for your dreams and aspirations and to not let the question of “Kaash” keep you wondering and bind you in a cage of regret for the rest of your life.
