Synopsis
‘Ek Aur Chai’ is a short film that touches the lines of letting go and moving on whilst seeking closure. The film is directed by Deepshikha Bhatnagar and produced by Blush – a growing digital entertainment channel. It presents before us the question of emotions vs practicality. The film is presented in a flashback with the characters going their own ways with the thought of the meeting playing in their minds. Mohit and Sana meet in Ahmedabad at the same chai tapri outside their college. With the same taste of the tea, they relive some memories in the rain.
Reciting a poem they wrote together they express the difference in their personalities. It reminds them how love still bonded them well for those two years. Sana is portrayed as a practical mindful girl who chose her dreams over her emotions. While Mohit is presented as a heartfelt lover who is still somewhere stuck in the moment for Sana did not come for a final goodbye. He believes that their relationship did not get the closure it deserved.
The Characters
Mohit played by Yuvraj Thakur is an ardent lover who personifies the saying ‘Old habits die hard.’ Yuvraj Thakur puts forth a perfect passionate person who values emotions. But at the end of the day he is left alone with unanswered questions and a heart submerged in unexpressed feelings. On the other hand, Namita Dubey playing Sana opposite Yuvraj Thakur is a realistic and ambitious girl willing to let go and move on in life. She believes in the saying ‘Leave before love leaves you’. She follows it and the trail of events follows. And here they are discussing their story over a cup of tea at a chai tapri.
Afterword
The film opens with the radio playing and the enchanting rain showering the viewers with a cozy beginning. The cinematographer Nachiket Pangare captures and brings out the beauty of Ahmedabad in the most elegant manner. The writers Palak Shah and Talsat Pandey are worth appreciating for their impactful dialogues. The conceptualisation of sharing a tea with stories on a rainy day gives the film the most appropriate metaphors. From ‘habits’ referring to cigarettes and people both to remembering little things from the past, Ek Aur Chai dug deep on questions and emotions, again over a steaming cup of tea.
Overall the film is a pleasant yet heartwarming story which is sure to leave you thinking about your relations which deserved a closure but didn’t receive one. The last text from Sana “Ek Aur Chai” made Mohit smile, it will make you fall too. Watch the film now!
