With Climate action as the theme for this fifth International Day of Yoga, let our bring about ‘Climate Action’ with improved health, behaviour and ethics.

International Day of Yoga Sand Art

Bhagavad Gita describes Yoga as the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.

The beginnings of Yoga can be traced back to ancient India. The pictographic seals of the Indus Valley Civilization gives proof of its origin at the dawn of human civilization. The word yoga was first mentioned the Rig Veda, while Bhagavad Gita and the Shanti Parva of the Mahabharata elaborately talk about it.

However, it gained prominence after Patanjali, the father of Yoga, organized its practice into Yoga-Sutras. He arranged this ancient knowledge into ashtanga yoga or eight-limbed yoga. The eight aspects of Ashtanga Yoga are Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi.

Maharishi Patanjali

Over the centuries, it evolved and grew diverse in its form as it passed on from generation to generation. In recent times, it has got global recognition and its awareness has spread to different parts of the world. In 2015, United Nations declared 21st June as the International Day of Yoga.

Yoga focuses on bringing harmony between mind, body and soul, with the ultimate aim of self-realization leading to ‘the state of liberation’ (Moksha) or ‘freedom’ (Kaivalya). It is a great source of a healthy life.

The theme for this fifth International Day of Yoga is CLIMATE ACTION. With our improved health, behaviour and ethics, we all can contribute towards solving the issue of climate change. Let our thoughts run in the right direction, while looking at some creative dedications to this theme

The Lyrics Writers Anthem “Credit De Do Yaar”

Fifteen contemporary lyrics writers came together to demand the well-earned credits for their creations through their song “Credit de do yaar”.

Credit De Do Yaar

Musical lyrics give meaning to moments making them memorable. They are the soul of any song. But the irony is that soulful music loses this soul amidst the commercialization of this craft. The culture of apathy and erasure where the lyrists do not get due credits for their creation has been the legacy for generations.

Fifteen contemporary lyrics writers from the Hindi film industry came together to raise this concern and demand the well-earned credits for their creations. The fun and catchy song “Credit de do yaar” is written by Kausar Munir, Varun Grover and Swanand Kirkire, while it is sung by Swanand Kirkire. This Lyrics Writers Anthem features Sameer Anjaan, Amitabh Bhattacharya, Neelesh Misra, Manoj Muntashir, Mayur Puri, Kumaar, Shellee, Anvita Dutt, Swanand Kirkire, Kausar Munir, Raj Shekhar, Abhiruchi Chand, Hussain Haidry, Puneet Sharma and Varun Grover.

Throwback Thursday With The Legendary Author Premchand

Premchand, the legendary Hindi and Urdu author, whose short stories and novels gained immense appreciation throughout the country.'/

There is no dearth of people in the capital of Uttar Pradesh to remember the legendary writer of a lifetime Munshi Premchand. He was born on July 31, 1880, in Lamhi village in Varanasi. He is the most popular Indian writer who left a mark of his own that still inspires the prevailing poets of the country.

His contribution to literature will never be forgotten over the course of time. He took Hindi literature to a next level that no one has ever reached, he is considered as the king of Hindi literature.

He worked as a teacher initially until 1921 before he joined Mohandas K. Gandhi’s Non-Cooperation Movement. Until his mid years, it was difficult for Premchand to get along with the language Hindi.

He described the rural area of the country through his stories which were based on the condition of farmers throughout the country. He was an extreme patriot which is the reason that led his first story collection titled ‘Soze-Watan’ which means ‘lamentation of the nation’, get banned and destroyed by the English government.

He authored several novels in Urdu and Hindi and pioneered Indian themes in Western-style. At first, he gained immense appreciation for his Urdu language novels and short stories.

His most popular 5 Stories include

  1. Kafan is a distinctive story of discouragement towards men.
  2. Godan, which was considered the last and the most important novel to Premchand that describes the pain of peasant life.
  3. Poos Night which portrays the underlying problem of night completion of poverty.
  4. Idgah which is a popular school book story of Hamid and his grandmother.
  5. Seva Sadan, a story of a woman becoming a prostitute where women’s life problems are being highlighted.

His works have earned him great respect even after his death on the October 8, 1936. His novels are included in the curriculum of the students in school. Literature can never be complete without his works and his stories are marked into the hearts of the people till eternity.
