Struggles are an inevitable part of life. But, the fortitude to overcome them makes victory really worthwhile. The latest Bollywood movie, “Gully Boy” celebrates the spirit of thriving in challenging circumstances of life, despite all odds.

The story revolves around the journey of an ambitious “gully” boy, who despite belonging to a lower section of the society, aspires to accomplish his dream of becoming a rapper. His knack for telling his story through street hip-hop music, his rigour, hard work and passion, gives him a breakthrough in the music industry. The movie is inspired by the real-life stories of street rappers Divine and Naezy, who despite being in similar circumstances, thrived and succeeded in life.

Referred to as a “Cinematic Masterpiece”, the film has garnered accolades in the Berlin International Film Festival and international media alike. The power-packed performances of Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, brilliant direction by Zoya Akhtar and an absorbing script and screenplay, makes this a masterpiece while giving the social message to follow one’s heart and passion.

The carnival of colours, Holi, is here, marking the arrival of spring. With splashes of multiple different colours in the air, it fills everyone with the spirit of happiness, enthusiasm and optimism.

Mythologically, there are numerous legends associated with it, like the tradition of burning Holika or the ‘Holika dahan’ or celebration of the death of Ogress Pootana who tried to kill infant Krishna by feeding poisonous milk to it and many more. Eventually, it signifies the power and victory of truth, morality and goodness over evil.

With the spirit of Holi, let us look at some of the remarkable themes of art, music and comedy.

Balance for Better, International Women Day, Women Empowerment, Himanshu Arora, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao

Half the share of the force, strength, dreams, and efforts in the world belongs to half the population – women. At every point in history, there were women who with their contributions left an indelible impression, changing the world forever. Ranging from scientists like Marie Curie and to literary sensation Jane Austen to national leaders like Indira Gandhi and Margaret Thatcher to devoted social activists like Mother Teresa and  Savitribai Phule to even powerful fictional female characters of Hermoine Granger and Elizabeth Bennet to countless more incredible women, they influenced every aspect of our lives.

Remarkably the potential of every little girl is similar, provided she is given the freedom to learn. Exquisitely described by Himanshu Arora’s Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, the poem speaks volumes of the prevailing condition and power of knowledge in changing lives.

Presenting our daughters’ the gift of education we ensure that they have curious minds, thoughtful actions, and strengthened voices, in turn contributing to the growth story of the world.

On this International Women’s Day, we wish every woman a fulfilling and thriving life ahead.

There is an age old saying that the world worries about disability more than disable people do. There is also a saying that fortune often favours the brave. Both these phrases can be attributed to Arunima Sinha, a former national level volleyball player turned mountaineer who despite her disability of being an amputee has managed to climb Mt Vinson, the tallest peak of Antarctica.

Losing her one leg in a horrific incident where she was thrown off a moving train for resisting chain snatching didn’t deter the brave heart in going after her goals. The latest feat just goes on to add another feather in the cap of the Uttar Pradesh girl who had earlier achieved the excellent feat of being world’s first female amputee to climb the Mt Everest in the year 2013.

As Arunima announced her distinguished feat to the world on Twitter, the whole nation raised a toast to her and her social media was flooded with heaps of praises. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated her in a tweet calling the 30 year old as “Pride of India”.

A Padma Shri Awardee and Tenzing Norgay Awardee, Arunima aspires to open a free sports academy for the poor and differently-abled persons. She is an epitome of bravery, strength, and spirit.

We at The Talented Indian congratulate her for outstanding achievement and wish her all the luck for her future adventures.

This story begins with the unachieved dream of a man to play cricket for his country and his wish to live it through his daughter’s dreams. In the Pink City of India, Jaipur, a man worked relentlessly hard to make wings for his daughter, so that she could fly high in the sky of the opportunities and possibilities to achieve her dreams.

Priya Punia’s father built a cricket ground for her training to master the game. Surendra, a Government clerk, sold his property and took loans to buy a 1.5-bigha plot on the outskirts of Jaipur at Harmada for Rs.22 lakh in the year 2010.

Project ‘De Náva’ : Conceived & Directed by Vaayudhwani

on

Goddess, Durga, Project 'De Náva, Vaayudhwani, Durga Puja, Navratri

The nine days of Navratri are symbolic of the supreme female cosmic power or Goddess Shakti who is worshipped in her variously manifested forms as Durga, Laxmi and Saraswati. But contradictorily in a goddess-worshipping community women also have to fight numerous battles of violence, abuse, etc, in their everyday lives. Thus, Navratri being celebrated merely as a festival of colors, dancing and singing out to the Goddess feels pointless, when on the other hand our women remain exploited. This thought is manifested beautifully by Vaayudhwani, through her Project ‘De Náva’.

Project ‘De Náva’ is a unique social experiment with the key objective to initiate the message #SeekTheGoddessWithinYou, which is not gender-biased, in a culture of blind worship. In this, a photoshoot was done portraying various avatars of goddess. Women from different walks of life came together to highlight some relevant issues like disability, body positivity, and LGBT rights.

(Vaayudhwani)

Vaayudhwani is a creative multi-talent, with a love for writing and visual story-telling. Her passion for innovating with new concepts and implementing content in creative formats, appeals hugely to the audience. Her first short film themed on ‘Swatchh Bharat’ won her an award particularly due to the concept. She, along with her friend Vajranabh Natraaj Maharshi founded the Vaayudhwani Productions, for such projects.

This initiative to connect people to the true purpose of this festival, by giving a fresh and an abstract perspective to Navratri and propagating the message of #SeekTheGoddessWithinYou, is truly commendable. Check out the quick video to know more about the concept.
