Remembering The Legendary Punjabi Poet: Amrita Pritam

On the 100th birth anniversary of the most prominent Punjabi poet, Amrita Pritam, Namrata Pathak narrates the interesting tales of her life and work.

Today, the world celebrates the 100th birth anniversary of one of the most prominent Punjabi and Hindi poet, novelist and essayist, Amrita Pritam. 

She was born on 31st August 1919 in Mandi Bahauddin, Punjab, in present-day Pakistan. She was the first woman to win the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1966. She is also awarded Bharatiya Jnanpith Award, Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan.

Some of her most memorable works are Majboor, Ek Drishtikon, Waaris Shah Se, Rajneeti, Maine Pal Bhar Ke Liye, Cigarette, Ek Mulakaat, Mera Pata, Khaali Jagah, Main Tenu Fer Milangi and  Ajj aakhaan Waris Shah nu.

With her legacy over a hundred books ranging in poetry, fiction, biographies, essays and a collection of Punjabi folk songs, she will be remembered for years to come.

In other words, it is the language of science. Very rarely than often, we come across people, who truly understands the subject to a great extent. Mathematician Vashishtha Narayan Singh was one such genius.

He was born on the 2nd April 1942, in the Basantpur village of the Bhojpur district of Bihar. He completed his schooling from Netarhat Residential School and then went to Patna Science College for his graduation. His genius was proved, when he was not only allowed to take the final year exams in his first year itself, but also topped the same. Eventually, he completed his doctorate from the University of California and went on to work at NASA, IITs and Indian Statistical Institute. His inspiring life and invaluable contributions to the world will, forever, be a great source of motivation for all of us.

All through our childhood, we have looked so fondly towards this day- the birth anniversary of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, widely known as the Children’s day or Bal Divas. We all have heard Chacha Nehru’s tales describing his love for children and …? Roses of course! Being the first Prime Minister of independent India, he had to play a crucial role in stabilizing post-colonial India. On this children’s day, we would like to raise a toast to these young achievers who surprise us with their extraordinary skills.

Shorya Manahot, a thirteen-year-old world-acclaimed abstract artist has been amazing people all over the world with his skilful canvas paintings. Holder of the titles like “World’s Youngest Signature Style Abstract artist” and “India’s Child Picasso”, Shorya has been showcasing his exemplary talents since the age of three. His beautiful pieces of art have been exhibited in various exhibitions all over the world and have received worldwide recognition.

Truptraj Atul Pandya is the world’s youngest Table performer as held in the records of the Guinness world book. At the age of 3 years and 5 days he gave his first Tabla performance and had done over 200 public performances till date. He was awarded the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar by President Bal Nath Kovid for excellence in the field of art and culture.

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas: Celebrating The Birth Anniversary Of Sardar Patel

Today, on Rashtriya Ekta Diwas we celebrate the 144th birth anniversary of the “Iron Man of India” Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Known as the Bismarck of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the architect of modern India. After Independence, when the majority of the country was divided into hundreds of empires, he was the man who with his relentless efforts led to the successful unification of India. To mark the indelible contribution of this great statesman, his birthday is celebrated as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas or National Unity Day.

He was born on 31st October 1875, in Gujarat. As one of the most stalwart leaders of Indian freedom struggle, he was nicknamed as the “Iron man of India”.

Today, on the occasion of Patel’s 144th birth anniversary, Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is being celebrated as Run for Unity, where people from different backgrounds will run together in remembrance of Sardar Patel’s dream of a united India. “Unity in Diversity” will be very well depicted in this Run for Unity and various political leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will be participating in the marathon.

The initiative aims at enhancing the union between different cultures of India and reducing the gulf between people from various backgrounds. There is strength in unity, hence India would prosper greatly as a united nation.
